Nautical Knot with Prosciutto (Print Version)

Chewy braid of prosciutto and string cheese inspired by Italian flavors, perfect for pizza edges or snacks.

# What to Use:

→ Dairy & Cured Meats

01 - 8 sticks string cheese (mozzarella or similar, part-skim preferred)
02 - 8 slices prosciutto, thinly sliced

# How to Prepare:

01 - Lay a slice of prosciutto flat on a clean surface, place a string cheese stick at one end, and roll it tightly. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
02 - Take two prosciutto-wrapped cheese sticks and gently braid them together starting at one end, twisting carefully to avoid tearing. For a thicker braid, use three wrapped sticks.
03 - Arrange the braided ropes around the perimeter of a pizza or flatbread before baking, or serve as a standalone appetizer with preferred dipping sauces.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They take 15 minutes and require zero baking skill, yet look like you spent hours on a fancy appetizer.
  • The contrast between crispy prosciutto and warm, melting cheese is genuinely addictive and completely craveable.
  • You can make them ahead, bake them last minute, or serve them cold—they adapt to whatever your night needs.
02 -
  • The first time I made these, I rolled the cheese too loosely and it slipped right out during braiding—lesson learned is to wrap tight enough that it doesn't move.
  • Baking changes everything: cold they're chewy and fresh, but at 375°F for 8–10 minutes, the prosciutto gets crispy at the edges and the cheese starts melting into something entirely different.
03 -
  • If the prosciutto keeps tearing while you braid, let it come to room temperature first—it becomes more pliable and forgiving.
  • For maximum visual impact, arrange them on a pizza or flatbread so they form an actual border—it's a showstopper that costs almost nothing.
