Ramen Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Print Version)

Crispy noodle buns hold melted mozzarella and cheddar for a satisfying, quick lunch or snack.

# What to Use:

→ Ramen Buns

01 - 2 packs (3 oz each) instant ramen noodles, seasoning discarded
02 - 2 large eggs
03 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
04 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

→ Cheese Filling

05 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 100 g)
06 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 100 g)

→ For Cooking

07 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or neutral oil

# How to Prepare:

01 - Boil ramen noodles according to package instructions for 2 to 3 minutes. Drain well and allow to cool slightly.
02 - In a medium bowl, beat eggs with black pepper and garlic powder. Add cooked noodles and mix thoroughly.
03 - Divide noodle mixture into four equal parts. Press each into a round patty, approximately the size of a burger bun. For consistent shape, use a ring mold or a small bowl lined with plastic wrap.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil. Cook each patty for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Transfer cooked patties to a plate.
05 - Place half of the cheese mixture on one ramen bun, top with another bun, and press gently to assemble the sandwich.
06 - Clean the skillet, add additional butter or oil, and cook sandwiches over medium-low heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Press lightly until cheese melts and buns become crisp and golden.
07 - Slice sandwiches and serve immediately while hot.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It tastes like comfort food made by someone who gets playful in the kitchen.
  • Those ramen buns stay crispy outside and tender inside, holding cheese like nothing else can.
  • Takes just 30 minutes total, including the time to feel genuinely clever about what you've made.
02 -
  • Don't skip draining the noodles well—excess moisture is the enemy of crispy buns.
  • The ramen needs to cool slightly before mixing with eggs, or they'll scramble unevenly and fall apart in the pan.
  • Medium-low heat for the assembled sandwich is non-negotiable; too hot and the outside burns before the cheese melts.
03 -
  • A ring mold or even a clean tuna can with both ends removed makes shaping the buns foolproof—line it with plastic wrap first for easy removal.
  • If your noodles are falling apart, they're either not cooked long enough or not bound tightly enough with egg; mix more thoroughly and pack them firmer into the mold.
